I have a 93 f-250 460 for the first start up of the day it takes for ever to crank over tho it cranks a normal speed then closer to the end before it starts up it starts to slow down on cranking then fires up. But when it fires up i have to let it warm up or give it very little gas or it will hesitate or die. What do u guys think i should test. I know i have spark an i know i have fuel because it runs an drives fine when its warm i cant put my foot to the floor an it moves.
ps ill get a vid up next morning when i go to start it,
You might want to check your fuel pressure, particularly the leakdown rate. One other thing, see if you can stick a noid light on the injectors. Engine Coolant Temperature sensor could also be a cause. The best diagnostic tool for this could be a good scanner to read live data while this is occuring.
how do i test the leak down rate? an i found out some thing new my tac moves up an down a lot when idling what could cause that.
Once you have checked the fuel pressure, shut the engine off and watch the gauge. I believe it is supposed to hold pressure for 30 min. Biggest thing is see if it drops off rapidly, this is an indication that something is leaking.
Idle surge is probably caused by a dirty or bad Idle Air Controller. On a 460 it is on top of the plenum inlet housing below the throttle body.
Thx for the help but im still stuck it cranks normal now but it take for ever to crank over. The other new thing is some times it dies while drive or idling but will start right back up when i turn the key off an crank it over again.
