Painting steel wheels
I have a painting question. I got some of those white steel wagon-wheel rims and they're in pretty bad shape paint-wise. I bought some spray on paint remover and removed all the paint down to the bare metal. I used a small grinder with a wire wheel, too. I'd like to prime and paint them but am having problems with the paint not sticking in spots.
I tried spraying rustolium right onto the metal and there are spots where the paint doesn't stick (as if there were oil on the rim in spots). I also tried primer and the primer just wrinkled up in some spots. As you can tell, I'm no expert.
Any idea why the paint won't stick? Is there some kind of solvent I should wash the rim with before I prime it? Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

I read those *AFTER* I posted (duh). But which is better, acetone, oil/grease remover, or the muric acid? I have a bottle of the acid that I used to clean my boat hull and can get the acetone or OGR easily.
Also, who makes the epoxy primer? Does Rustolium? I'm hoping all this stuff comes in spray cans as I don't have a pro paint shop.
Thanks again!

What color are you going with. Reason I'm asking is I painted the wheels on the second dirt car white and used appliance paint. I still "puf canf" primed them first. Also did my fridge and freezer same way. That stuff held up to most everything and the wheels were still shining when we sold the car.

THe paint is probably not sticking due to there being stripper on the metal still. Would be my guess. Ive never tried using acid on the bare metal so I dont know. Sry however when i paint bare metal i clean it with laquer and a scotch pad then wipe dry and pre clean.
