2012 options availibility
The LSD is all but gone. It looks like some 2wd's with tow packages can still get it, but if you want 4wd, you get the e-locker or nothing. This is slightly disappointment to me. Nothing against the e-locker, but near as I can tell, it doesn't work in 2wd, where as the LSD is all the time. That and the current versions of ford's traction-lok are the first ones in quite some time that actually work worth a darn.
Anyone that has read any of my posts knows how i feel about power options, so i compared the XL to the XLT's.
In a crew cab SWB XL you cannot get 3.73's. But you CAN get skid plates with the 3.55's.
In a crew cab SWB XLT, you can get 3.55's, or 3.73's, but if you want skid plates you have to get the 3.73's. I found that kinda odd.
IIRC, you can get the XL and XLT's in the crew cab LWB, and get 3.73's but then you get both HD towing and HD payload. I would like the Heavy Tow (mostly for the mirrors), but not the HD Payload (mostly for the ride, If i wanna get beat up driving a truck, ive got the 79 and 04 for that).
Also, I put all the XLT options on an XL (e.g. fog lights, aluminum wheels, power, apperance, and tow packages) and the MSRP was several thousand less than an equivilant XLT. Also, you can get vinyal flooring in an XLT, but there is no credit for it ... so that kinda honks me off.
The one thing you do really give up with the XL is your color options. But the stirling grey goes nice with the XL's black grill parts.
just some observations. Maybe next year a nice used '11 will come on the market so i wont have to order a 12
