I was just wondering about putting a smaller profile tire on my 95 F150 for towing. I have the 5.0l with 3.55 rear and 5speed manual trany. I want to tow a small TT that will weight in about 2700 lbs when loaded and rather than change the rear to 3.73 for more pulling power I thought this might accoplish the same thing. Any downside you know of and what tire could I use. I currently have the stock P235 75 R15 on it.
I don't think you're going to get that much power out of it for it to be worth it. I go from 235s to 32's and it doesn't make that much of a difference in my opinion.
no to mention that the weight capacity of each tire drops of significantly below 235/75/15's (I'm talking load range ratings).
There won't be much of a noticeable advantage to going with a smaller tire than you currently have. The only thing that you'll probably notice is a lighter wallet.
Now if you had 35's on that rig it would be a different story...
I run 245/75-16's at present but was playing with going to 235/85's to highway cruise at a given speed at a lower rpm, something more in the torque range for my 460 w/o changing axle ratios. It will at least give you an idea of how much things could change.
