I'm dripping oil and traced the leak to the hpop. The connections to the engine are clean so I am ruling out o rings. I looks like the leak may be coming from the pump. I am thinking maybe the gasket? There is also a plug that I can't get to right now so I don't know if it's oily or not.
Is the "non removable" plug really non removable? That seems to be where the leak is coming from. The oil is pooling in the valley of death and appears to be coming from under and behind the pump. Without taking it off it's kind of hard to see.
I just had a similar issue. Dealer changed the gasket between the HPOP and the resevoir on the front of the engine... also changed the o rings. That fixed it.

Cherrob123, My son has a 2000 7.3 and he currently has the same issue, although your leak seems to be a little worse than his. His isnt pooling in the valleys, YET, but i am sure its just a matter of time!
I recently replaced my hpop,in my 99 because the back plug threads let loose after I replaced the o-ring. It really wasnt that hard of a job and it also gave me the opportunity to remove, clean, and replace all the o-rings in the fuel bowl, and the infamous fuel drain valve which could possibly be the culprit of your leak. What you think is oil in your valley, could possibly be fuel! My point is, if you aren't the only owner of you truck, as in my case with mine, and my sons case with his, its impossible to know what has been done and what hasn't. It gave me piece of mind knowing that now, for many miles, I should be leak free in that area that gives 7.3 owners so much grief!
Thats why I am pushing for my son to do the above....... Notice I said my son?.... My intent it to just supervise!!!! Yeah right! Lol! Just some kind suggestions, not meant to push my thoughts on others! Bill
Hey Chet, Glad to see someone else thinks the right way....My way! lol! He's 20 and its awesome to see him tackle a job on his truck, and start to get mad if I want to help!!!!!
The drip on the concrete is definitely oil. I have a party to go to tonight so I don't want to get all oily and greasy, but tomorrow is another day. I am going to give the drain valve a look see too. I've already replaced the fuel bowl seals. I did this before I started reading this forum a few years ago. Didn't know about the hpop issues back then or I would have done right then and there.
I am the second owner of this truck. I bought it with 60k on it and it has 330k now so I feel like the original owner. Many of the issues particular to this truck have started creeping up. The CPS was the latest one. I was able to get that handled under a recall at the dealership along with the wiper motor cover and the wiring harness fix for the cruise control.
This forum has been invaluable and has probably saved me thousands over the years.
I know what you mean. I have 198+ on mine and I constantly try to do the preventive maintenance on it rather than the imperative things? Problem is, It seems like I am always under the hood, or under the truck! But I wouldnt trade her for anything in the world!.....Bill
Just a quick update. I finally got to look at the HPOP and sure enough the lower plug is leaking but isn't stripped. I am replacing it and the o rings while I am in there.
I had a mechanic try to convince me that I needed to replace the HPOP outright and that they were 900.00 new. I found remans all day long on the internet for 350.00 with core.
Sometimes mechanics are their own worst enemies.
Thank you again to everyone for the great advice. Especially F350-6. That diagram sealed the deal.
