Just a quick question here..I have a 2002 F-150 XL with a 4.2 with 42,000 miles on it and the fuel pump recently went. Has anyone else had one croak on them with as few miles on them as mine? Any ideas as to what may have caused its early demise? Thanks in advance fellas
Just sitting and not running can be very bad on a vehicle as well. Sometimes even worse. It allows things to gum up, condensation can for rust in the tank, plugging up the fuel system. In that 42K was the fuel filter ever changed?
So It's probably like the old saying goes... if the miles don't get ya the years will. I was sure surprised by how much fuel pumps cost these days as well
did the pump sit a lot with an empty tank? Honestly 42k isnt that many miles for a 10 year old truck. It must have spend a large part of its life sitting.
The reason is i suspect that either some gaskets or seals in the pump may have dried out over time without fuel on them. This may have lead to pre mature failure. Now i wouldnt say that this is a common event or something you should worry about, but it deff could be a possibility.
