Hey what is the purpose of that "rode draft tube". I noticed that there was a small puddle of oil on the concrete floor of my shop after I got the 54 cranked and drove it about a mile up the road and back then let it sit in the shop overnight.
The Road Draft Tube was designed to prevent pressure build up in the oil pan and the valve chest area - The tube worked as designed as long as it was kept cleaned - When the engine ran it also created condensation in those areas that mixed with oil vapors and some of that mix would make its way to the tube and would be deposited across the bottom of the chassis and on the ground.

Thanks Dick. I noticed it looked a little watery and IS all over the bottom of the chassis mixed with years of good ole Nebraska dirt! Used a puddy knife and scraped 3/8 inch of crud off the crossmember and oil pan. Had some purdy red paint under all that!

The road draft tube is designed and placed so as to create a negative crankcase pressure.Forward movement of the vehicle creates that negative pressure and draws crankcase fumes from the crankcase and vent those gasses under the vehicle. The air is drawn in through the oil filler, picks up blow by gasses and carries them out the road draft.
Thanks Raytasch and Ross for the information. A PCV system is just what I will put on the old girl cause I don't like her to mark her territory all over the place!
I had a little trouble finding this link via search so PM'd Ross for it, and when I saw your request I knew straight where the link is... $10 is Ross's cost from napa for all the pieces and parts, not sold as a kit.
