I can't get the hood latch pin off.... I've soaked it for some time with PB-blaster for some time but I can't budge it.
I have another hood from my parts truck, which is also a 53, and I looked at the hood pin on it....
The problem I have on my truck hood is the nut on the top of the pin is recessed so I can't get a wrench on it. I thought I might try a deep socket but the recess is too tight....
SO I looked at the other hood, and the nut on that hood, ISN'T recessed????
That isn't really relevant to my problem, other than confusing.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my pin loose? I need to lengthen the it so the hood will raise up a little in the latched position, so it will line up with the fenders....
I want to get it out and clean it up so it can adjust easily.... but I just don't know how to get it out.
I thought about cutting the post... but that seems drastic. (not to mention expensive as the posts aren't cheap...) that's actually why I thought about taking the one off the parts truck...
There is a small slot on the end of the pin that is useless as you probably know, all I used was a pipe wrench to remove mine. The nut you are refering to is welded to the hood on mine.
Bill,
The two hoods I have "appear" to be different. Re: the recess vs no recess.
My truck has seemed to be bone stock, but the parts truck could be different.... and perhaps the hood isn't even related to the parts truck...
the parts pictures show a nut top and bottom... I am still perplexed as to how to loosen this whole thing up...
