4wheeldrive

hi g uys im currently i n market to buy a new or newer f150 the last few days ive been around the dealerships has anyone noticed on the f150s with the 3.7 you can get the old fashione 4 wheel drive with the shifter instead of the stupid dials that dont usually ever work. All the othe trucks with the different engines have the dial only the 3.7s you can get differently what is with that? any ideas?

My 09 XL has the manual shift transfer case. I think it was available up to a certain trim level, regardless of engine, in 2009. not sure about the newer ones.

what engine and trim level do you have? the trucks i ve seen with this are only the standard cab and super cab and only with the 3.7 v6 when you move up to the ecoboost or the 5.0 its all dial just an interesting observation. when you g o on fords website and spec a truck their is nothing for this option i would much rather have a truck with a mechanical linkage than an electric switch.

My truck is xl trim 4x4 s/cab 4.6 2 valve v-8.
When i picked up my truck, (Sept 09) The dealer had a 2010 5.4 xlt s/cab on the lot w/ manual shift transfer case, so there are some out there. I am not sure about the 2011 and 2012 model years. The repair shop i use just bought a 2012 s/crew xlt 4x4.with the 5.0
I will find out what set up he has.

While I understand that you want the mechanical linkage for durability's sake, the newer switch and 4x4 engagement systems on these newer trucks are much more reliable than the older systems. If you cannot find the truck you want with a mechanical shifter, I wouldn't fret too much about it. I believe XL and "lower" trim levels offer the mechanical shift, regardless of engine.

I just sold an '88 F-150 that may have interested you. Manual all the way.

I think you can still get a manual T-case lever on the XL / STX trucks but everything else is operated by those dubious unreliable dials. There are no more manual locking hubs unless you move into a superduty so the manual T-case lever really only takes up floor space.
