With doing some searching on here this morning I'm thinking of going to a manual in my 96 psd.I'm trying to find which trucks I should be looking for as a donor truck,I'm guessing that it must be a deisel.Which years can be used for pedals etc.Which years bolt up the my transfer case.
Thanks
Jake
NAHHH!!!! ITS EASY! kind of....LOL i had a 97 extendes cab auto...i got a extended cab manual...swapped everything into my auto...except the transfer case. I kept my auto TC.
I seen your post and after pricing out autos I think switching to manual might be a better option.just wondering which truck years to look around for as a donor.I still have the 94.5 to drive while looking.
Well...my auto wasnt even bad...My brand new Torque converter was bad...So when i was thinking i was either going to replace it with a racerx or swap to manual. I jsut about gave up looking and at the last minute i found a 93 F-250 with a non turbo 7.3. So i went and picked it up for 600. sold the motor for 900 three days later..Took the pedals out and trans and the crossmembers. The hardest part of the job was puttin the pedals in. And man i'll tell ya..it was no big deal. The truck is awesome now. It seems like it has 4 times the power. Because now you can run the gear out and really crank it up. Before it used to do the usual ford down shift and fall on its face lol. So in my opinion...DO IT UP!!!
DO IT!!!! my 96 had ***** as an auto, but now it has big brass *****!!!! the swap is not as bad as you would think it took me like 2 weeks and thats onl working on it on the weekend< just an fyi i satrted talking about doing the swap and the trany went!!! as well as a few others i have seen! i would look for a 93 or your year, blown up or some thing, if you go 93 you will need a pcm flash, or a chip, and have to work on some wires, but redman was a big help with my swap, and krisx125 did his the same time i did my, its not that bad, get all your stuff you need and do it! you will be happy with thw out come! i did myn for about a grand and 500 of that was clutch and fly wheel! if you need help just ask good luck
So I need a 93 or newer donor ? Those are a tough find out here but will take some time to lok around. What years of zf 5 have the same bolt pattern?
thanks for the help
Jake
A zf from behind any 7.3l motor powerstroke or not will bolt right up. Make sure it is from a 2 or 4x4 whichever you have. You'll need a clutch and flywheel for your truck.
Thanks,I found a 85 parts truck but it's a little ways off and not sure which trans they come with or if the bolt pattern from a 6.9 is the same.Don't have a truck like that here to see if the pedals etc would work either and the owners no to helpfull.
The 85 will have a t19 4speed tranny unless it was swapped out. The first year the ZF5 was offered was 87. The bolt pattern on the 87 6.9 will be the same as the 7.3. I think the peddle box will be different than the one you need.
The pedals have to be from a 92 or 93 I believe and later. I can't say enough that if you have the time to just be patient. The closer to your truck you can find the easier your job will be. The day I decided to give up the hunt and upgrade the auto my lady found me a 95 donor the same cab configuration, bed length, everything as mine for super cheap. It needed a new ps gearbox. I swapped it in the guys driveway and drive it 200 miles home. I ended up doing the 5 speed swap, getting limited slip rear w/ matching front gears, loads of this and that parts, and selling the rest for a bottom line profit. There are deals to be found just might not be today

x2 with redman!!! if you can find a 96 dude you would have it made!!! wires drive shafts pcm all you would need is the time and beer!!! and more beer than time!!!
A ZF5 from a '88-97 7.3 will bolt right up. You'll need a clutch and single mass flywheel for your year truck, pedals and hydraulics from a '92-97 truck...
Thanks, those were the answers I was looking for.I found a 96 today by chance.2200.00 for a truck that every body panel is destroyed. rebuilt motor apparently but air cleaner hose is off and a lot of snow under hood.truck is very ruff with items taken off like alternator etc. All the piece I guess I'd need would there but not sure what kind of return I could get out of the motor. Is that in the ball park for price? Probably a few hundred to get it home as it's a couple hundred miles away. He said first to pay cash gets it and I can get there till Monday.
