I am trying to buy F250 SD and have been told to stay away from 03 and 04 6.0s. But some say that some of the 04,s are fine. Is there an easy way to know if an 04 was built after Ford made the fixes?

Second question - I have found what appears to be a great 04 with only 44,000 miles. One mechanic told me to stay away from low mileage diesels because they can actually suffer from not being driven. What concerns should I have on an 04 with this number of miles?

The 04's have the ICP sensor on the passenger side valve cover--production date after 9/29/03. I'd have NO problems getting another 04. The only concern I'd have would be the turbo rusting from lack of use. Get the VIN # and have a dealer run an OASIS to see what kind of warranty work was done on the truck. If it's got a LONG history it may be problematic but it may be that it just needs driven. If the price is right jump on it.
