Well if I'm reading the schematic right, Your WHT\LG wire should be the wire coming from the PCM to light it up, but I've never been very good at electrical.

I have an ‘03 F250 SD 7.3 Powerstroke that has the same issues. The previous owner spliced a different wire harness into the shifter and the wire colors are different. Does the schematic apply for my truck as well? Did they keep the same shifter in the 04s?
