Vin decode please.

1965 Mercury

5991028L213645

I thought this was maybe a replacement vin but just read somewhere here that up to 65 this is the way the Canadian trucks were done.

I think I got this one from memory...

5= 1965 model year
99= Styleside pickup
10= M100 series truck
28= trucks wheelbase in inches...Canadian tags seem to only list the last 2 digits
L= Left Hand Drive
213645= sequential build sequence

Your memory is on the fritz, because...

5 = 6 Cylinder Engine / If it had been a 4 = V8.

There is another engine code (composed of 2 or 3 letters) stamped on the Rating/Warranty Plate. When decoded, gives the engine size.

100/350: SP = 240 1V I-6 // SQ = 300 1V I-6 Light Duty // SR or SRT = 300 1V I-6 Heavy Duty (350 and larger series trucks) // SS = 352 2V

10 only decodes to 100 series, because there were also F Series trucks assembled in Canada.

100 series trucks: There should be an A after the sequential build number (numerical sequence of assembly).

213645A / A = 3,600 - 5,600 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating range.

28 = 128.8" wheelbase. Referred to as the 129" wheelbase on US trucks.
