ok i did a coolant flush and then changed over to an ELC. after i did the change i believe that i overfilled the system because i was getting coolant coming out of the cap from time to time. i figured out that the fill lines on my degas bottle are wrong so i removed some coolant and i haven't noticed any coolant coming out of the cap any longer but i did notice something odd that concerns me, the system always seems to have pressure in it even when cold. none of my other vehicles do this but they are gas engines. it just seems strange that on a cold engine when i remove the degas bottle cap alot of pressure escapes and the coolant rises quite a bit similar to what it would do if the engine was hot. someone told me this is a symptom of an engine problem, that compression is getting in there but didn't really elaborate on what that meant. does anyone else s system do this or know if this is normal or do i need to investigate this further? any advice will be greatly appreciated.
get some gauges like a scangauge Monitor ECT vs EOT SOON
change the coolant bottle cap
I keep my coolant leval 1/2 inch below the low mark on the coolant bottle
Park th truck nose down and pull he EGR Valve look for coolant in its chamber there should be none
Lots of things will cause puke start with the easy stuff first
did you have the issue befre you did the flush ??????????
It may have plugged the oil cooler with the flush it happens sometimeas did you use any cleaners at that time
i have gauges and all the temps are in line with eot and ect usually almost the same temp. usually 195-204 depending on outside air temps. i did replace the cap and yes i flushed with the degreaser (i forget the name) and then the vc-9 just like the how-to's posted here. it hasn't puked since i lowered the level of coolant and replaced the cap but i find it surprising that it would keep pressure once the engine gets cold say overnight etc. in fact i could let it sit several days and check it and there would still be pressure in the system.
I think that its OK for the system to have alittle residule pressure just meeans the cap is working as advertised
It sounds fine to me
just watch it close for a few sounds like it was a little full of coolant
for some reason on these 6.0s the coolant needs alot of room to expand and contract and the leval varies alot
I would tend to be suspicious of having residual pressure in a cold system. This might be due to a slow leak either from the EGR cooler or head gaskets.
Recommend checking for combustion gasses in the coolant, just to be sure that there is no problem.
What part of an engine would normally keep pressure for several days? Nothing I can think of on the whole truck is that tight except the tires (and coolant system). it may be over pressurizing while running, but I don't thing anything is pressurizing it after shut down.

Reason: Add
Just went and pulled my coolant cap cold soak since friday night and NOTHING didnt sound like it pushed or pulled any air positive or negative pressure
I was wrong just thopught it may have very little but None
My truck has some residual pressure after sitting overnight. I was thinking the system must be good and tight. But maybe not. I'd like to know also if this is a problem.
Can you tell it's pressure for sure? A vacuum kinda makes more sence to me. Expanding when it gets hot then contracting when it cools......but it would even out unless there was some purging going on when hot, maybe it burps up some air? Just kinda thinking out loud here.
