May be a stupid question i know.... But this is my first F-100. Its a 71 2wd longbed, i know when the switch is straight forward it controls the main tank in the cab, but for the reserve tanks i dont know which position of the switch controls the left or right side reserve tank
How many tanks does the truck have? It only came with the behind the seat tank. Usually the pointer on the control handle points to the line below the floor to that tank.
By your question i'm assuming you have 3 tanks, on my 3 tank set-up the pointer is as follows.... < left aux. tank..... ^main tank.... >right aux. tank
yours should be the same, unless a PO fubbed up the lines, take a look under the truck and trace the lines.
Ford never offered saddle tanks for any truck, so if it has them, they are aftermarket. Usually the fuel caps of aftermarket tanks are behind aluminum doors that are riveted to the quarter panels.
The In-Cab fuel tank was standard equipment, FoMoCo offered a 25 gallon auxillary fuel tank as an option for 1967/72 Stylesides, the fuel cap is exposed.
This tank mounts on the inside of the left (drivers) side frame rail. Inside the bed is a shield that protects the filler tube from possible cargo damage.
1967/69: The fuel filler tube/fuel cap pokes thru the left quarter panel ABOVE the scallop (bumpside) line, in front of the left rear wheel.
1970/72: The fuel filler tube/fuel cap pokes thru the left quarter panel BELOW the scallop line...in front of the left rear wheel.
