Lost Confidence in our 06 6.0 PSD
Hi all,
My husband and I just dropped nearly 10 grand into our f250 6 liter. We love the truck and it is my daily driver. But it just doesn't feel right. I understand the work we have done and not a clueless wife but not completely up to speed with all the 6 liter problems.
We have done New Cylinder heads, gaskets and apr(?)studs, sinister erg delete. We got 200k out of city on our way home and it lost power and died. High pressure pump failure. We couldn't prove that it was a failure due to something the mechanic did or didn't do during head gasket job to cause the failure.
When we first picked up the truck it had an engine growl and steering wheel shake at 1500-1800 rpm when accelerating. The mechanic said it was something to do with small air bubbles in the high pressure oil system from
the work he had done and should clear up after some driving.
The second time we picked it up it had the same growl and shake, we have traveled over 400k highway and 50k city driving. It doesn't seem to growl but the shake is still there. My husband suspects a bad injector.
Is there anything else that's known to fail on these things?? It seems like we've got "one of those ones". Do we off load it before we put more $$ into it? Any more and we've put 75% of what we paid for it back into it..
I have no confidence that it is going to get the kids and I where we are going. Love my truck, but wondering what else??
Thanks guys!

When he did gaskets an studs. Did he replace the standpipes an dummyplugs. Did he replace the SCT fitting. Did he replace oil cooler. If he didn't those r trouble spots in the motor to. He should have done those to while he had the heads off.
What year is ur truck.
An finally.

It is a 2006, 113000km. I know for sure he replaced the oil cooler, and from what I can remember him explaining when we picked it up he had replaced pipes, dummy plugs and fittings. Will have to check with hubby to see. The growl and shake concern me, and im really hoping it's not injectors..we have an edge insight monitor. The truck hasn't thrown any codes other than the insufficient egr flow code due to the valve sticking. Going to pull valve and clean. If it continues will pull it out and get a tune. Just didn't want to spend the bucks on a tune if we didn't have to.
I know if you fix it right with the right things this engine can be bullet proof. First round we thought we had done that, then the HPOP failed, and now possible injectors.. Sorry guys, wallowing in my self pitty..

After I did studs & gaskets. Pipes& plugs. Oil cooler & coolant filter to mine. I was worried about takin it on a long trip. So I drove it around town an romped on it some to see how it would do. Then took it on a 135 mile road trip an it did fine.
I was worried about it b/c it had brokedown on me twice while away from home.
I wonder if when ur HPOP went out if it put some medal into an injector an messed it up.
I don't know if that's possible or not. Just me thinkin aloud.

That's where the EGR flow code is more then likely coming from.

Hubby just drained 14 excess liters of oil out of the truck. Took it for a run and is perfect, and shows perfect oil levels on dip stick. They must have forgot to drain the old oil.
Because the shake and growl was there on first pick up, we wonder if having nearly 30 liters of oil in the truck took out the HPOP..
Does that sound like a possibility?? If so will be fighting for a refund of about $2100...

Does the oil have a fuel smell? I'm wondering if the excess oil isn't really oil at all, and if it could be fuel that found it's way to the crankcase because of a damaged injector o-ring or something...I would keep a close eye on the oil dipstick and be sure that the level isn't coming up.

No Mark checked oil for fuel or antifreeze. Doesn't appear to be contaminated oil and with that much extra we should be able to tell. Yes most deffinstly going to raise hell wiith shop.
Thanks for all your input guys! Will be monitoring oil and coolant levels. But I think our truck is good to go! Yay!
