I'm looking to swap out the power steering in my '86 F150 to manual steering, cause it's soo much cooler From what I've read, 83-97 Ford Rangers' manual steering box is interchangeable, along with the Mazda B2300's that had manual steering. Is there a definitive parts swap / compatibility list somewhere on the web? It'd be best to search for the same part under different vehicles' listings.
Just for giggles, I looked up a non-power steering gear for an 82 F100. The listing claimed it fit F150's from 80-96, as well as rangers 83-97, and the B2300 Mazda from 94-97. As well as Bronco 80-96 and Bronco II 84-90 (entire production range).
Sounds like they are the same to me. The limited year range on the B2300 is simple, prior to the 94 model, Mazda built their own trucks, 94+ Mazda trucks are just rebadged rangers (I own a 95) and the 4 cyl B2300 was the only one not equipped with PS as standard.
96 was the last year for twin I beam F150's, and 97 was the last year it was used on the ranger/B-series. Makes sense that the steering boxes would be the same, much cheaper to produce 1 part to fit multiple applications.......
Cool, thank you for verifying it. That's how I was checking, too - looking up at advanceauto, ebay ads, etc., and seeing the overlapping vehicles it'd fit for. Well, I think I'm going to go for it, then. It'd be nice to have a reman' unit with no slop in the steering, but creature comforts are really not a priority. At least, not yet
If nothing more, this thread will now be on the web as a "definitive" swap guide
Well, my 95 B2300 with manual steering has over 160K miles on it, and it's still tight as new. I guess the box was overbuilt for such a small truck. Now I know why.......
