SCT Question

I just had the oil cooler, egr was sealed up, STC fitting and dummy plugs done. and now she runs great! I had to order a tuner to turn the EGR off. What else should I use the tuner for? I have pretty much a stock truck with 200k on it. Not looking to make a hot rod. Dont want to ruin it with a bad tune either.... Runs like a champ now as is.....

Thanks
Daniel

Order some custom tunes from Gearhead Matt and tell him they're for a totally stock truck. Your truck will run SO much better and love you for it.

My mechanic loaded it with the xtreme tune and boy what a difference! Is it safe to tow that way?

No. Don't tow with that tune. An if you don't have ARP studs then u don't even need to b useing that tune at all. If you still have stock head bolts an run that tune an romp on it much then you will stretch your head bolts an blow out your head gaskets.

There is a towing tune in your programmer. Use it for towing.

If I had a stock truck I would use the tow tune or u can call Matt at Gearhead an I think u can get 3 tunes for 100$. He has a SRL tune that's safe for stock trucks. Atleast that's what I have read on here. An the ones useing it say it's awesome.

I haven't gottin any tunes from Matt yet. But as soon as I get all my gauges bought an installed I'm goin to call him an get some.

I would not use any canned tunes that come with a tuner. I'd only run custom tunes from a reputable tuner. I'm running Matt's SRL tune and have a stock truck except for an upgraded exhaust. I'm extremely happy with the performance and shifting of the tranny. Also if you do go with a custom tune, make sure you have the needed gauges first so you can properly monitor the engine's vitals. At a minimum, you need to monitor EGT and fuel pressure. If you get an Insight or ScanGage, you can also monitor other vitals - particularly ECT & EOT and keep an eye on how that new oil cooler is doing. Also I'd upgrade the exhaust to keep the EGTs in check.

I went with exhaust first. Then gauges. Found out my fuel pressure was a little low and installed the blue spring. With fuel pressure where it needed to be, I then pulled the string on a tuner with custom tunes.
