A little while back I bought a head unit for my truck I bought an adapter piece so I didn't have to cuz any stock wires. After that I think is when my speedometer, odometer, cruise control failed. I bought a new speed sensor and every thing still does not work.
Is the speedometer, odometer, cruise control related to the head unit in any way shape or form? Has this happened to anyone else?solutions?
The ABS module takes data from the 3 speed sensors (left front, right front and rear) and uses that information for it's operation. It repeats the adjusted vehicle speed on a wire that goes to the PCM, the Overhead Console or Trip Computer, the Instrument Cluster, the 4WD Control Module, the Wiper Motor (apparently there is a speed sensitive wiper control option available), the Cruise Control servo (on gas engines) and the radio. Apparently there is a speed sensitive volume control option available also. Some of these connections might not exist if the truck didn't have the option, the diagrams aren't clear on that.
If the wire going to the radio is shorted or grounded somehow, I could see it affecting all those other systems. Disconnect the radio and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, the wire is Grey with a Black stripe (on my 2004, might be different on other years) and is pin 9 on the 20 pin radio connector.
