2008 F 350 Dually with 69,000 miles

Hello, I am new to here and to Ford products. I am in the process of purchasing a 2008 F 350 dually Diesel with 69,000 miles on it. From 2007 until 2011, it was in Florida. Now it is at an upstate New York State dealer. Academically speaking, how many miles can I put on this truck provided I maintain it according to what Ford specifies? I am looking to keep it for a long time and to use it as a tow vehicle for my RV. I have the carfax report and noticed that at
27,523 miles, the radiator and power steering pump were replaced. No other documented problems according to carfax. Is there anything I should be concerned with and do you have any pointers for purchasing a truck with this many miles on it? Thank you for your time.

Alex

Yes it does. Who knows what else might fail on this vehicle if at all, however, i guess the radiator being replaced appears to be the only past issue. Apparently the milage was mostly highway going between Florida and New York.

Yeah, because it's probably the only '08 6.4L to have radiator problems. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...000-miles.html

The mileage isn't excessive, my '07 was bought after the '08s hit the lots and it's barely closing in on 60k, several guys have already pushed '11s over 70k. The overall cosmetic condition of the truck will be a good indicator of how well it was treated, if the interior is imaculate odds are good that it wasn't generally abused. To answer your academic question, a qurarter million miles is in reach for any truck if you take care of it, 70k isn't a huge deal for the engine or tranny.

Go down here and read up on some of the 6.4L specifics:

Thank TexasTech. Great information. I am obviously new to all of this so I appreciate your time to respond. My other truck choice is a 08 F350 4x4 with SRW that has 10,000 miles on it for $32,000. I love the dually look, however, thought the milage might be high. The asking price for the dually is $29,000 and it appears to be in mint condition that was owned by a horse farmer that drove it between Florida and New York State.

By the way, my college, OK State plays you guys in a few weeks at your home stadium.

Yep, our 2011 F450 just turned 64k miles. It's used as a car carrier 24/7

I would gage the condition of the motor partly on the hours of the motor.

As an example mine has aprox 59,850 on it with 1524 hours. So that is just over 39 mph.

IMHO a good motor will not have alot of idle time so somewhere around 38 mph I would be happy with.

I am in the Albany area I can look at it for you if you would like. PM me and I will give you my shop and cel phone numbers. The only other thing I would ask for from the dealer is an oasis report on both.

FYI low miles on a diesel can be just as bad as high miles and poor maintence. Dont let the mileage scare you these trucks like to work, but at only 3k more for 50,000 less miles that would be hard for me to pass up especially since I am sure there is room to move on that price too.

Good luck and if you need any help let me know.

Is this truck at a Ford dealer? If so, have them give you an Oasis report on it. This will give you detailed information on every time the truck has been serviced at a Ford dealer.
If it's not, write down the VIN and go to your local Ford dealer. They may be willing to get you an Oasis report on it.

that milage would'nt scare me off, diesel or gas. like others have said, get an oasis report from a ford dealer. it will give you any dealership activity with the truck, repairs, owner complaints, recall issues. bring the VIN # good luck.

Hello Sarge, you can give me a call at 215-469-0141. I am now torn between a 2008 F 350 Dually with 69,000 miles for $29,000 or a 2008 F 350 SRW with 10,000 miles for $32,000. Both are XLT and equipped the same. The SRW truck was registered as commercial and both one owner trucks. Dually had radiator replaced at about 27,000 miles.

The dually I am purchasing at 69,120 miles has 1863 engine hours. it would appear that the mph would be 37. So I take it that this is within an acceptable range?

That would be good. An indicator of more time on the road and less in the shop. Worth another look.
