I don't usually hang out over here on the expedition side, but I'm having a problem with my wife's car I was hoping someone might have an idea about. It keeps running the battery dead. The battery is only a year old (interstate) and we've had it tested a couple of times and it checks out. The guage says the alternator is charging like normal and I tried checking it with a multi meter too, and it checked out. For some reason when you leave it sit over night the battery drains and it is completely dead sin the morning. So dead that the keyless entry pad won't even work. All I can think of is that something is drawing on the battery and running it down, but I can't think of what it would be. I don't hear anything running when it's shut off. Any advice you guys could give would really be appreciated. Thank you.
To know for sure if you have a draw, disconnect the neg cable and touch a volt meter in between the neg cable and the neg side of the battery. It should be around 4 volts NOT 12 v. If you do have a draw you need to do as alwaysfords41 says and start pulling fuses till you find the culprit. After each fuse check for a drain on the system. Good luck.
Had any trouble with the radio? My wifes 03 Explorer was running the battery dead shortly after she complained about the radio acting up. I tested everything and then noticed that the radio buttons were illuminated even with everything including the motor shut off. I pulled the radio and it was so hot you could almost not hang on to it. Replaced the radio and the problem was solved.
Thanks for all the advice. I haven't had a chance to mess with it yet. I'm willing to bet alwaysfords41 nailed it though. Her rear wiper isn't working for some reason, so it sounds logical that there is the problem.
