Recently the truck has developed a intermittent mis, hesitation, or "bucking".. I would describe the mis as this: suddenly (but quickly) turning the key off then on, for example, when a carb is running out of fuel the engine starts to die, then suddenly there's fuel again..
It may do it once (or twice) in 25-50 miles, or not at all. A common time it does it is just prior to engine reaching full operating temp and sometimes/ not always, when it shifts into 3rd or 4th gear and tach is around 1350-1500 rpm. It doesn't sputter or what I would describe as "chatter missing".(when is does it, it's quick and over before I can react) It just does it once and maybe not at all the rest of the day.
Two weeks ago I was idling thru the Lowes parking lot, it shut down like I turned the key off. But fired right back up with no problem.
Engine is not throwing any DTC's and runs great with plenty of power.
It's going to Ford this week for a recall on a CPS and some speed sensor or module (don't remember what it's called)
I'm worried I'm loosing the HPOP, but there's no loss of horsepower. However, I've read on here that the Injector Control Sensor can cause the same issue as so can the CPS.
Sounds like the CPS to me. Does it happen to do this when you are running the windsheild wipers on intermittent? I am on my second cps sensor from the local parts house that will do what your describing while running my wipers on the low intermittent setting. If I turn the wipers to the normal low/high setting it doesnt do it. For the longest I thought it was a wire problem and I was getting water into a harness somewhere.
We see trouble with the CPS's bought at your local parts stores. You should get one from Ford or International and I bet it will straighten out.Grey is the color now, most of the black ones are gone.
Have an appt. with the Dealership in the morning for a factory recall on the CPS and some other part. I tried to get the parts from them and I do the swap myself. (really picky who works on my truck)(rolled a truck due to some dips*^t mechanic who screwed up my front brakes, now I hate anyone, I dont know, turning a wrench on my vehs) Hopefully, this will cure the problem. Just looked at the prices of the ICP and IPR, not cheap...
Dealership changed CPS (not sure which color, haven't looked, sure it's gray), truck is running much better. Drove approx 45 miles and no issues.... so far
