I love my excursion. It is the king of SUV's. And 14 mpg is nothing to complain about. Besides I really didn't buy for mpg. I wanted big. The v10 has been really nice and have not put anything into yet at 190,000
I think I really like my 2008 f350 v10. I have owned diesels for several years and they are expensive to work on. I had a 2001 powerstroke, had 1 injector go out and cost me $553 to have it replaced. Had a valve cover gasket go bad, cost me $135 to be replaced. Then I bought a 2004 cummins, ran perfectly until I was on vacation and fueled up at an exxon station and it had water in the diesel. Ran like crap for about the next 25 miles until it just quit. Had it towed to a dodge dealership and found out the water in the fuel took out the injectors. Just like that I was out $4300 to get new injectors put in. I thought maybe the dealership was trying to pull a fast one on me so I called my buddy back home and told him what it was doing. He told me that it was the water in the fuel and he sees it all the time. He is a diesel mechanic and he sees a lot of farmers and ranchers come in that need new injectors cause they fueled up with some old diesel that had water in it. The bottom line is I may have lost some fuel mileage but it will pay off in repair costs over the diesel.
Amen Bro, I was in the same boat having had a number of diesel pickups in the past. When they run right, you love them, but with the added maintenance costs and cost to repair, I'll take my "gas hog" V-10 any day.
Love hearing all the horror stories from the people who have owned diesels
Bad news spreads quicker and more angrily than good news. When things are good no one wants to talk about them. We all own Ford trucks and thats all that really matters.
Replaced them on both sides now twice, had the exaust manifold machined to make sure they where flat the second time. one stud just broke again in less then a year. I didn't want headers because of the noise and bad experiences with leaks on past trucks but sure wish I had now.
And
HATE THE COILS!!!! Replaced all of them at 90K and have replace 3 more since then after 30K At least there easy to replace!
LOVE the power and other then those two problems no complaints.
I hated the exhaust also. Did headers never had anymore problems with exhaust bolts. Never liked the sound either went through 3 different exhaust systems always sounded like a pissed off 6 cylinder. Had flowmasters Gibson and then diesel exhaust. Liked the deisel exhause the best.

What do you mean you put a diesel exhaust on it. Do you just mean like a 5" or something? I've never been impressed with the sound of the V10 either so I just leave it quiet. You can go with a ProFlo which is a little louder than stock but you won't really notice the difference in sound it will let it breath better though.
Just the factory exhaust off a diesel. No I didn't run 5" exhaust on a V10. Took cat off and put the factory exhaust off a 2000 7.3 and ran and sounded better than any other exhaust I did.
Already on my 2nd one. The next one will be an 08-10 3v v10. I probably won't be selling this one when I do get the next one. It's only at 122k miles but it is beat up esthetically due to having been a work truck. Even so, if I were to sell it, I wouldn't get much for it, so it will probably just sit for those trips to home depot and the occasional dirty job.
This is the only vehicle I've ever bought where the interior was dirtier than the engine bay. I don't know who owned it, but the way it runs is well worth it.
