I bought a set from Clay at Riffraff Diesel (the Excursion forum sponsor) but I haven't installed them yet.

thanks for the link. they are reasonably priced. I plan on buying some down the road... I have never opened mine with the key since I bought it, so i may get the cylinder plugs too. if I ever lock myself out AND run the battery dead, I can always go in through the hatch.

You probably shouldn't do that... our trucks are really easy to steal and are a favorite of thieves. I'm from a small town and when I'm back home, I'm a little more lax.. but really you never know when someone might drive off with your baby.

Also did you know that most insurance companies won't cover the theft if its stolen with the key in it?

The Excursion is very hard to steal because of the Ford PATS key. Won't start without it. They have to flatbed it to take it. F250's do not all have the PATS which makes them a better target.

However, getting in and stealing all your stuff is pretty easy. The risk with Jimmy Jammers is that if a thief wants in because they see something they like, they'll bypass jimmying and break the window. Path of least resistance. A window repair is likley more costly than a little sheet metal repair and paint.

Jammers are a great concept though.

There is a video on their website, it does not appear to be staged, of a parking lot where a thief tries the screwdriver trick, can't get in because of jimmy jammers, and drives down the parking lot to another truck and steals it. I dunno. I thought that PATS came on the F250's too.. I was wondering how they start them so easy! All the ones I've seen pics of had the cylinder smashed out but I was wondering if that would still start a pats truck.

Won't start without the transponder in the key if it has PATS. The brain requires it to allow starting. What you are seeing are the F250's not equipped with PATS. A simple column crack will allow you to hotwire. I think Excursion theft rates are low because of how hard it is to steal them.

Jimmy Jammers would definately reduce one additional way a thief can at least get to your stuff inside. Might be a good deterrant.

Would that light turn off with the truck on? I guess you could wire it to a switch or something but I would probably forget to turn it back on when I got out.

I've already got an email into the seller now on that exact question...I don't want to drive around with it flashing.

Although the listing states "This unit is designed for easy install and will automaticaly flash when your key is removed from your vehicle."

I'm not sure how it is wired in...that's my other question to him/her.

But for $5 total for 2 of them...I may simply take a gamble to see how it works...not out a whole lot in any case...right!
