Exclamation Headers

Is there a difference in the exhaust bolt pattern between the cobra jet heads and dove-c heads? I finally found the set of headers I want and Hedman says they only fit Cobra Jet heads. I didn't know there were any differences other than maybe the exhaust ports. By the way, the Hedman part # is 85651.

The bolt patterns are the same, the port is slightly different. I've used CJ flanges on non-CJ's a lot in the past, just use the CJ gasket.

'76 High-boy. I think I may have to modify my steering shaft and brake lines to get 'em in but I don't think that'll be too much trouble.

Yea that probably all you will have to do. A friend has some on his highboy and he had to work on the steering shaft. His truck has a 79 steering box on it. I borrowed them to try on my 78 frame and the fit perfect with no mods. They bolted to my DOve heads using CJ gaskets and looked to seal good. They are an awsome looking set of headers just a little high for uncoated. I have L & L's and the heddmans are alot more of a performance hedder. I plan on getting a set in the near future.

I got the headers on last night without too much trouble. The only modifications I've made so far is re-route the brake lines from the master cylinder to the p-valve and notch the cab mounts on both driver and pass sides. With the headers bolted on, there is good clearance all around. The steering shaft is sitting on the header but it is not binding. This may have to be modified once I get the trans. in. I hope to find out this week.

Lightbulb Headers

flatliner, I installed a set of the hedman fenderwell headers some years ago on a friends pulling truck, and if memory serves me right, we weaved the steering shaft through the tubes, I also think we put a slight dimple in one tube with a body dolly, so the shaft would not rub. Check that out and see if that would work. One more thing, I didn't check which part# is the 2'' tube header, but the 2'' tube header is the one we used.

I've got the 2" tubes and I'm planning on takeing the steering shaft loose on one end and denting one of the header tubes like you're talking about.
