First off, can anyone tell me why I have to use the short chrysler oil filter in my 66 F-250, I'm assuming it is because the adapter is not original. Second, I would like to install a remote mount filter system. What are the pros and cons of this, does the filter have to be mounted at a certain height or can it be put anywhere, will the length of the hoses affect anything. Obviously, the easier the filter is to get to the better, and the longer the hoses are the better they would cool the oil. Could this cause a dry start situation? I know sometimes when you try to make something better, it does'nt turn out too good.
If you can use the big ford filter I would use it. I'm not sure about the dodge filter but the FL1-A has an anti-drainback valve and will hold oil in the system to keep the startup dry for the least amount of time. There is nothing wrong with using the didge filter as it is a suitable substitution. The FL1-A is just better.
I think you are running into the same problem I am . On my '75 4x4 I did the newer streering box conversion so the fl1-a wouldnt fit . So for the time being I have been using a shorter motorcraft filter ( FL300, it is the same diameter as the fl1a but it is just alittle bit shorter ) . There are 2 different oil filter adaptors; one mounts the oil filter horizontaily the other mounts it vertically . You need the adaptor that mounts it vertically so that you can use the fl1a filter ! These adaptors are generally on CARs or 4X4 trucks . I dont remeber the part number but I am sure someone here knows the correct one as the later adaptors for the 428's flow more oil then the older ones, and be sure to use the FL1A it is a better filter
