360 for 390 Engine Swap

360 for 390 Engine Swap

I have a 73 F-250 4x4 with a 360, 4 speed. I have an opportunity to purchase an early, (65), 390 with an automatic. I want to keep the four speed but have heard here are issues with the input shaft between manual and automatic.

Any help from anyone would be appreciated...

360 for 390 Engine Swap

As far as I know the only thing you will have to do to the 390 is put a pilot bushing/bearing in the end of crankshaft. The automatic doesnt have that, nore does it need support on the imputshaft like your 4 speed does .
Other then that it is bolt in!

I just changed a swapped a 71 360 for a 64 390 and the motor mounts were different. The guy who changed the engine had to actually move my engine support inside the engine compartment. Why this was the case, I don't know, but that's what happened to me. I expect someone like ratsmoker to tell me the guy dubbed me! Doc.
