HI guys, can any one tell me a few things about this truck, thanks.
  1. What year is it?
  2. What size engine is it?
  3. What kind of box would it have had?
  4. Are parts easy/hard to find?
Thanks.

Hey Longland,
Like Dick said it's a 1948-1950 - the front chrome monkeyface is the
marker for those years. We have a 1950 Ford F1 & parts are readily available to restore trucks from that era - Lot's of aftermarket support. Items that are harder to come by are the Doors, Hood, & the rear floor area behind the seat. There are Bed replacement kits available from multiple sources so don't sweat the bed - Looks like a nice one!

Ben in Austin

(Others will chime in on whether it is the normal size pick up or one of the larger trucks for those years. I can't tell without the bed on there - Did you spot a Vin# on there?)

If the grill is original, it would be a 48, but with the Mercury hood and the Ford below the hood, it is most likely a mixed bag. Most cab and motor parts are available, but it looks to be an F-5 or 6 which means widowmaker rims and unavailable brake drums and shoes.

Well Longland it looks like you have a mercury truck with ford front fenders and grill. Would be a '48-'50 with the 239 flathead in it. Per my brochure it would be what they call a '188' engine. ( 188 ft lb @1400 rpm.)
Take a look inside the glove box and see if there is a tag on the inside of the door. The cowl side shows the M-135 tag ( Max gvw 13500 lbs. )
Nice looking radio blankout plate. I searched for a long time to find a good one of them and an ashtray **** too.
It is the same green as mine, yosemite green. Hope this info is of some use to you.

It definitely appears to be a Mercury M-135, which is the same as the F-5 or F-6 in US production. The "188" engine Greg mentioned the truck should have I believe is the 255 cu. in. version. That's what it says in my dealer brochures. My guess is that at some point, the front end got crunched and the fenders and grille was swapped out with a used nose, and the Ford parts were what was handy at the time.

If you could get a picture of the center firewall tag, we can tell you more about your truck and narrow down the year better.

As to the kind of box it would've had, most of those big trucks were delivered as a cab and chassis, as yours is, and most any kind of unit could have been installed on the back. Anything from a flatbed to one with stake sides to a grain bed to a moving van box, etc. You name it, it could have been there. It just depends on what the owners needed a large truck for.

The parts I listed that the Ford Dealers have, I found using the Ford Dealer Parts Locator System, which is not available to the general public. Prolly why they still have these parts.

There is another parts locator website: PartsVoice.com. Most of the obsolete parts vendors, about 25% of the Ford Dealers have their parts listed, but...

Job Lot isn't 'on' Parts Voice, dunno why. Anyone can access Parts Voice, registration and searching for parts is free, and...more than just Ford parts are listed.
