EGR Cooler Failure again???
EGR Cooler Failure again???
I noticed on a long trip that my truck was starting to run hot. I pulled over and found my degauss bottle was empty. After adding almost 2 gallons of coolant, the temperture remained fine and my trip went on uneventful.
Two nights ago I parked on an upward facing (Front pointing up hill) incline. When I started it up the next morning it idled really rough and chugged white smoke for a little while and it cleared out after 20 seconds and then it was running fine. I checked the degauss bottle again, but the coolant level appeared ok.
To me I think I have another EGR Cooler failure, but my last one chugged white smoke all the time. It has not done that since, but I havent parked on an incline either.
Any thoughts?

I believe it was replaced. The Bill was around $2500.00
Going to pull the EGR Valve tonight and see if it is wet, but it will be after a 40 Minute drive, so not sure how much wetness will be there because after it ran for a little while it cleared up and has not since. I am going to park it on the incline again tonight and see what happens in the morning.

When mine blew, it didn't smoke all of the time. I'm sure you know, but just in case. Nose down on the incline check...
Check your receipt for the oil cooler... I've heard of several cases where the oil cooler was not rebuilt when replacing an EGR cooler- which is totally stupid if you ask me... The oil cooler, as you know, causes the EGR failure the vast majority of the time.

Thinking about doing this, this time around if that is the case.
