c6 output shaft issue

I have to replace the yoke on my 1977 ford pickup truck, its got a 302 motor and a c6 transmission. I went to the salavage yard and pull one off another ford pickup with a c6. When i went to install the yoke i found out that the output shaft was larger then the yoke diameter. WHY??...I dont know if i need to go back and look somemore for a yoke or trade output housings..NEED HELP!...Thanks Again!!

I'd just try to find the right one for your trans. Ford used more than a few different ones through the years. If you want to change the style of yoke you probably would need to change the output shaft to match the yoke, which would mean changing the tail shaft & the whole trans would need to come apart to change the shaft. New yokes can be bought through local drivetrain shops or try Tom Woods Drive Shafts, Drive Train Solutions and others.
