Need some help guys!

Have a 74 f250 ranger with a 429 in her. few problem to have resolved. When at idle she smooth but as soon as i drop her in drive she idles very rough untill i hit the throttle then smooth out again. And that coupled with the truck not starting some days. some days it fires right other you have to play with her and others it doesnt fire at all. Also have a sound that sunds like a bad u-joint (not a u-joint BTW). Im all sorts of confused on this ol girl any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Their smallish float bowls tend to run a bit dry after sitting idle for extended periods of time, the fuel evaporates off, more quickly so with an open element air filter, and it doesn't help matters any that Edelbrocks draw their pump shot from the top area of the bowl, so added all up, it's a recipe for hard starting.

Well, after saying all that, i still run Eddy's, i like their simplicity and dependability, but like any carb out there they have their quirks, i find running a phenolic carb spacer helps, quit a bit actually, with the heat soak/boil off problem some experience with Edelbrocks.

well change plugs, wires, new cap new rotor, timing spot on and the adjusted the carb. Still have same rough idle almost stalling when put into drive, she is fine when in park. If ya pull the choke when in drive she smooths out.
