2000 7.3 SWAP 2003 7.3

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any differents 7.3 form 2000 to 2003. I just picked up a F450 with a blown motor & I know where I can pick up a 03 7.3 for a great price. I just want to make sure the 03 will work in the 00.

Thanks for any help

Simple answer is it is a direct replacement, so yes it will work. One difference will be the powdered metal rods in the 2003 vs likely forged rods in the 2000. Only an issue if you are going for serious horsepower.

Yep, everything should be identical unless there was an extra wire for an accessory or something.

Indeed, plus the Glow Plugs on the 2000 are operated by a relay. on a 2003 they have a GPCM (Glow Plug Control Module) I dont know if the ECM needs to be flashed or changed to operate the Glowplugs.

On all 2003's? Even non-California trucks?

Huh, I didn't know that. I know the 6.0's were like that, but I didn't know Ford did that to the 2003 7.3's too.

Thanks. I was kinda surprised when I saw the other post stating all 2003 7.3's were GPCM'd.

Even though I was 100% sure that wasn't the case, when I read that, it became 99.99% SURE, lol!

Ah, ok.

All 6.0's are GPCM'd, but when it comes to the F250/350 7.3's, only the California prepped trucks have the GPCM. As well, all 7.3L Excursion have GPCM's too, whether Cali prepped or not.
