If a serpentine belt for a 99 F150 retails for $75.00 at Napa, How much is an independent shop going to charge me for it,not including labor to install,I don't want to get hosed when I buy the belt
Phone around a bit, shops pay jobber price ,which is less than retail, and add a percentage to cover the extra labor if a part fails. They might even be less $ than retail.
It depends on the mfger of the belt and who's selling it.
DAYCO, Goodyear, ETC.
I just replaced mine for $45 and even at that price, it could be cheaper somewher else.
All you need to do is get a 1/2" drive long bar to fit the tensioner.
Relaxe the tension and pull the belt off the alternator pulley.
It is threaded around such that you don't need to pull it on over the fan.
Pay attention to how it comes off.
There should be a decal on the top air cover showing how it threads.
Make sure the belt sets in all the pulley grooves before you start the motor.
Good luck.
Thanks,I've replaced belts before no problem,This time I was getting the power steering pump replaced, I didn't have time to do it myself so I had a local Indy shop do it,I told him to thro on a new belt while he was in there, the belt does retail for $74 at the local NAPA, Hes chargin me $114 for the same exact belt,Tried to reason with him, No luck Like I said,GETTIN HOSED ON MY BELT
Nope ! he just gave it to me good!
Ford dealer charges $40.48
Canadian Tire --$65 or $52 depending which manufacturer you go with
NAPA part No. 25-080991- $74.66
The guy is adament he has a business to run
Another EXPENSIVE LESSON learned the hard way
Thanks for lettin me vent
That sucks.
I know at NAPA,,,you usually get the right part,,,not like some places. Unfortunately,,,there also the highest price for parts anywhere except for maybe a ford dealer. ):
