Advice on locker install
Well...My dana 60 (rear) is on its last leg. Shifting from D to R results in an ever increasing bone charring "clank". Turns out my pinion gear is rotating quite a bit before making contact with the ring gear. Not good.
So...time for a rebuild. Definately want a locking diff. I'm not the richest dude but I've wanted a locker for 15 years so price isn't a major concern.
I plan on a new ring and pinion. Any suggestions on a supplier? I'm gonna keep the 3.54's so as to match the front dana 60.
I am strongly considering an ARB air locker and plan to put one in the front as well. Here in Iowa the roads can get pretty slippery during the colder months and I am worried about the performance of a standard locker not locking and unlocking during turns. Hence an air locker so I have the standard open diff performance when I need it and locking diffs when I need it. The driver gets to make that decision.
Also, would an air locker have any performace issues in the extream cold? It can get down to -10 degrees F.
