New Wheels/CAI questions

Tires are 285 75 R17s and it sits a bit higher.
It's a 2WD model.
What do y'all think?

Also, I'm looking to get a Cold Air Intake, any suggestions on best for the price? It's a 2001 4.6L.

Everyone says its a waste of money. Truck already has cold air and it gets more air than it ever needs. Use the money to fix the dent in the side. just my .02

I put on the spectre CAI on my 2000 f150 5.4, didnt notice much difference in power, except for the sound, it sounds like a Holly 4 -barrel double pumper when you step on it tho! that sound set me back $170 and 2 hours to install, i dont mind it, sounds good to me

I have a 2000 5.4L with a K&N FIPK which is more of a short ram, i noticed a difference in sound for sure but to say i really noticed anything else i would probably be lying to you, the other thing is that in the colder months it gets a little whistle when idling.

Was the install difficult? I've done brakes, heater core swap(dash removal), alternators.. But never any intakes. Are there any tools needed? And does the MAF plug back into the new CAI?

Thanks!

Good point jirwin, that is courtesy of my mother backing into it with her TrailBlazer..

No damage to her plastic bumper but my metal door suffered dearly..

The instructions are pretty straight forward you should have no problem, the only snag with mine was the vent line from the drivers side valve cover i thought was too short, it touched the egr tube so i got a longer hose, and the maf harness was alittle short on reaching the tube, i just had to undo the harness mounting tap from the plate where it comes off the fender wall, and I left the rubber boot on the maf plug to keep dirt out of the connector

Oh nice, alright. I might do that then. I would want a bit more power and it sounds like the CAI doesn't do much..

Do you have any experience with aftermarket headers?

Awesome! I'm thinking about doing the same, but maybe long tubes? I probably would have a shop take care of it.. I have no garage here on my college campus haha.

Yeah I would of got a huge bill if I took mine to a shop since everything from the the egr tube, fitting, header studs , flange bolt were all rusted to hell, I had to cut everything out, which was very time consuming

If you want to do a CAI, you should search for the GOTTS intake mod. Basically what it does is takes a peice of pvc pipe, and a rubber connecter and uses that to replace the existing snorkle between the fender and the filter box. total cost is normaly around 15 bucks. then get a high quality filter. something like Amsiol i believe is what is commonly recomended. then if you want some extra noise, you can remove the silencer in the stock elbow. somewhere there are some dyno numbers on this mod, and it was only beaten by one CAI and not by very much. Oh and if you look at a truck that has the GOTTS mod, you don't even notice it unless you know what your looking for.

@kb: I'm not too sure that I have much rust being here in Texas, but I very well may.. I'll look into it and do a bit of research.

@farmer: That looks pretty promising, I am surely on a budget.

Hey, where exactly is the silencer?
