failed coolant test (ph)

Brought my f250 in today for an oil change and to test the antifreeze since the warning light was on. Test failed so they now have me scheduled for a flush on Monday. It was there first one that has failed at that dealership so they are in contact with Ford and probably going to get it covered under waranty. Has any of you heard of this happening? Should I be concerned? The truck has 13k on it. Thanks in advanced. BTW, great truck so far.

This topic has been discussed a few times here. Generally, it is a 100,000 mile coolant so it should be fine. The twist is this new environmentally friendly coolant seems to need maintenance to go 100,000 miles, or at least it is likely to need attention.

There is an additive that can be added to your coolant so a flush is not always necessary, in your case I certainly don't know. Hopefully your dealer knows about the additive and also knows that they are doing a flush because the additive won't solve your issue. Might want to check.

In the report they said the coolant is contaminated. So hopefully just a flush and I can be on my way. Will be buying the test strips to keep an eye on it after the flush.

Same thing with my truck. Check coolant additive message came on at 13000. Took it in and it also failed. The check in monkeys also said they had never seen this but had heard of it happening. REALY!! When I talked to them about the additive they said it only resolves PH issues and mine was a contamination so a flush was needed. No warranty coverage but they would document this issue and any further ones on this could become a warranty issue. There is an article where a filter system was put into the 6.7 with some Baldwin filters to clean the coolant system. I never knew there are two parts to the system and I'm sure very expensive to fix. I also bet putting the filter system in would void your warranty.<O</O

If you read the instruction that come with the Rotunda test kit. It says to add 48oz of additive to the primary coolant system and smaller amount to the secondary. if you fail the contamination test. So a flush is NOT neccessary for failing the contamination test.
