I've been doing some research and I found out that I have the following axles on my 1977 F-100 .
Front = Dana 44rs HP with possibly 3.54 gear ratio ( I have to open it up and look to verify )
Rear = Dana 61 ( put on after the 9 blew up ) and I found that it might have a gear raio of 3.07.
My question is which gears should I change out in order to match them up? This truck is really just my toy/trash run/snow plow truck. It also has a 460 in it right now...
Ya might not be able to find 3.54s for a D61 but 3.50 is close enough. The .04 difference won't amount to a hill of beans in the real world. However, it can gets rather wonky with a split of 0.10 or more.. save 4WD for loose dirt or othr loose traction conditions so the drivetrain won't beeyatch at ya.

Since you have a 1977 F100, I doubt you installed a Dana 61. Dana 61's were only installed in F250's & E250's, the axleshafts have the 6.50" bolt circle pattern used with 8 lug wheels.
What truck did this Dana rear axle come from? I'll betcha it's from a 1976/79 F100/150.
Some 1976/79 F100/150's came with Dana 44 rear axles! Available axle ratios: 2.72-1 / 3.07-1 / 3.23-1 / 3.54-1 with/without Limited Slip.
* The FoMoCo Axle ID tag (on Dana axles) is under one of the bolts that retain the inspection cover to the housing.
Has the Ford ID number for the axle (like D3TA-AA), ratio (like 354 w/o LS or 3L54 with L/S) and etc stamped on it.
The bad news is, many of these ID tags are missing today, because thoughtless peeps forgot to re-install them when the inspection covers were being bolted back on.
It is a Dana 61, sold to me as a dana 60 and the research says NOPE its a 61. It is a full float 8 bolt pattern . It has 61-2 casted on the pumpkin and c38390 as well. I searched and searched to find the ID tag but I have not found it yet, I am cleaning the Axle slowly with a wire brush..
I did find that Precision Gear makes a Dana 44rs gear of 3.54 and 3.07. So you all suggest going with the 3.54 or 3.50 matchup !?
Anyone want to swap gears ? I also have two ford inch 9's im willing to trade... I live in Orange Virginia if anyone is near that wants to swap.

Amazing...not too many people install this type of axle in an F100/150, because, for one thing, they have to carry two different sized spare tires.
Look on the housing just to the left of the inspection cover for the Dana ID tag. It's a rectangular 2" x 1/2" steel plate that is attached with two bolts.
Will have a Dana 7 or 8 digit ID number stamped on it, like 603010-1 or 603010-11. This number may also be stamped on one or both sides of the axle tubes.
If you find it, post the numbers...I'll decode it, tell you what you have for a ratio...and etc.
Well, about the tubes.... The tubes have a thick black coating of paint or whatever the factory put on them.. This is different from the dana 44 which appears to be bare metal and I was able to find the stamp on the 44.. I dont think I am going to have any luck. About the 61 - yes I am trying to figure out what i want to do about the two different rims. I have some American Racing rims with the 5 star lugs but they are only on the front right now. I may try to find some 8 bolt rims to match...
At this point I just want to get my 4 wheel drive working and i will worry about the rims later if at all..
While im thinking of it... Since I do have the 9inch rears.... How much can stock 9in take? I am running 33s on it and I would like to run her in the mud when ever i see a ditch... Think the 9 would hold up?

Absolutely. If worried at all, step it up to 31 spline axles.
Count the number of splines on end of axle. Count number of teeth on pinion gear and divide into number of teeth on ring gear. With it tore down, you can be positive without relying on the tag. Number Dummy should be along shortly to decipher the tag for you.
