Anybody live near Roanoke, VA?

I am considering a job in Roanoke however, I'm not looking to live in town. I would prefer to live outside of the city in a rural area. Ideally, I'd like to find a home with 20+ acres, not entirely covered in trees. I would be moving from the Philadelphia suburbs, so I know nothing about the area other than I occasionally drive down 81 and 77. Can anyone recommend some areas that I might look at?

On another note, I would recommend posting this in the Virginia Chapter forum. You'd have a much better chance of getting good responses. I'll either move it there or to the General Non-Automotive Conversation forum.....your choice.
Ohhh,..I didn't realize there was a Virginia forum. Yes, please move this thread there. Thanks for the help!

ATC Crazy lives in the area. The traffic on 220 towards Martinsville can be nasty. How far would you want to commute? Google Roanoke newspaper and TV stations - will give you an idea of the area. also Find Real Estate Listings, School and Neighborhood Information and More - Realtor.com® as well google Roanoke, VA realtors.

I currently live in Roanoke, and have lived in Martinsville, and driven to roanoke daily not a terrible commute, but can get nasty in weather. Traffic can get rough at 581's end. Like the area though.

Seems I always hit that 581/220 off I 81 around 5PM. It wasn't too bad this past Fri even pulling the car trailer. I'd prefer to commute no more than 45 minutes. The job would be located in downtown Roanoke, right near the airport. Also, when I say I'd like to live somewhere rural, I truely mean middle of nowhere rural - no neighbors, dirt roads, etc.

Take a ride up 220 north towards Fincastle and up 11 towards Buchanan, nice areas as as well and easy to the airport area. My nephew found a good deal out 460 in Botetourt Co near Blue Ridge too.
