G-day Duane here from Perth Australia.
We are in a spot of bother here with my truck 2003 7.3 power stroke .its been over fueling at low revs then it started a knocking noise in the motor .Since then we have changed the oil pressure sensor and the noise went but the motor is still blowing white smoke like a steam train .We have changed the computer module with another vehicle but no luck .Does anyone have any ideas of things we can check or change to rectify this pproblem any info will be valued we are stumped . Thanks for your time rgds Duane.
I would start by checking for Blowby. I know Trey has a good video of the simple test, or you could start by flipping the oil fill cap over while idling and see if it blows off. If so a compression test would be in order.
Another possibility would be a split nozzle on an injector.
Thanks for the reply fellows . we have checked the blow by thats all good the split injector we are going to look for if nothing else pops up .We really are grasping at straws .We are going to check the engine temp sensor as well .
Sounds like a broken injector tip. Crank it up and open the fuel bowl drain to bleed off fuel pressure to see if the white smoke stops or at least is reduced. Definitely sounds like a broken tip though.
Get hold of an IR temperature gun. Point it at the exhaust manifold adjacent to each cylinder. If it is an injector over fueling the problem cylinder should register a lower temp. This should help to narrow it down so you don't have to pull all the injectors. This works best when engine is cold and the exhaust manifold has not been heat saturated.
It doesn't necessarily have to be a cracked injector nozzle. It might be an injector, for whatever reason, that is not properly atomizing the fuel.

i had these symptons. took months of trial and error. Even went as far as a new engine. New engine didn't come with injectors. I used my old injectors. fired it up and had the same exact problems as with the old engine. I actually put stage 1 split injectors in as a modification and it ran perfect. Of course you have to get a tune to run split injectors in a 2001. But those damn injectors can mimic many situations such as blowby, choppy idle, smoke at idle but not at speed, etc etc.

I think you meant to say you need tunes to run SINGLE SHOT injectors. Split shot injectors are the stock type.
