i have never had my dashboard apart
i have a few bumbs burnt out in the gauge cluster and the heater controls
the heater controls seem straught forward but the gauge cluster is my worry
its a 95 f150 xlt
any tips or tricks
Removing the cluster is easy. First pop off the two trim pieces on each side of the steering wheel and remove the screws under them. Remove the headlight ****. The black piece should now come off after you unplug the fuel tank selector switch from the back. Remove the four screws holding the cluster in. Carefully disconnect the wiring at the back and pull the cluster out. The bulbs then just twist out.
ok that was easy
all told getting the bulbs from crappy tire it took me about 40 minutes
except one thing
i turned on the ignition and my gas gauge went to full and i know im on e
gonna go for a drive and fill it up to see what happens
hope i didnt bugger anything up
i did take the glass off and clean the cluster so im hoping i didnt bend a needle or something
ill see when i drive it
You probably just need to clean the contact for the fuel gauge signal circuit. It's the Y/W wire that runs to pin 5 connector A if your cluster has a tach; pin 6 conn. B if you don't have a tach.
took it for a drive filled it up everythign was aok
and now i can see the gauges in the dark too
the truck is commin along few more little things to fix up
