Tell me what you think...

I have a buddy that wants to sell me his 85 Bronco, with a big six and automatic. It runs good, and drives fine, but it has this lope when you put it in gear and when it's low in the RPM's; it smooths out when you get up to speed. Not super extreme, but enough to make a guy uncomfortable.
Think it could be a transmission problem? Or perhaps just the torque converter?
He only wants $800 for it, but I don't want to buy a problem if it is one. Lemme know what you think.
Thanks!

Full-size 4WD for $800? Even if you have to put a rebuilt C6 or AOD (don't recall which was available that year) you will be in good shape. Could be something as simple as fouled plug or bad plug wire too. You won't touch a full-size 4WD unit on a new or used lot for that kind of money unless its ready to throw four rods and the body looks like swiss cheese! Just my humble $.02.

800 soundslike a deal to me too. even if u have to put some $$$ into it you will still come out ahead. How is the body? Most important, How is the running gear? I paid 600 for my 81. When I got it it barely ran. The guy had it wired all wrong. I have about 800 more in it to this point. Had to have the heads redone. I still think I got a good deal on it though. After all, with all the help around here, at least yu will get plenty of advice....

Good points...
The price is definately right...
It seems like if I put a little work into it, it could be a good runner. I don't really care about the appearance, though it looks pretty good, because it's going to be used as a Jeep trail terrorist unit.
I have to sell my other truck before I can buy it, so hopefully he still has it around when I get the $$$.

Nice try, wise guy...
Wanna buy my truck? Sell it to ya cheap...and it's in pretty good shape...
Anyway, I got the truck running real nice today...gonna go face the emissions ***** on Saturday for my judgement...If I pass, I am selling the truck so I can make my play for this Bronco. I don't think he's in a huge hurry to sell it, and I think he'd give me a chance to buy it before he puts it on the market. But I don't wanna wait. I want 4wd NOW!!!!

Yeah, I wish I didn't have to go through all this emissions garbage.
Like it really matters if you do the test on a truck like mine!
But, since I live here, I can't even title the truck until it passes emissions (I was stupid for not making the guy I bought it from do it... )
Personally, I think it's gonna pass easy. I just changed the plugs and rebuilt the carb, so it runs real nice...doesn't smoke or smell funny...I'll check the timing and set it up good so it'll bun nicely...
The good thing, though, is once it passes the e-test I can sell it to anybody without a hitch!
Wish us luck...Saturday morning...judgement day.

Oh, and Alan, if you know any CO Ford enthusiasts who want a decent truck, lemme know. I'll let mine go for a good price...
