Ok i know i just posted about how no one has 360 but just found a 71 on ebay close to me but i need to know what the differance between a 71 and a 76? I need this motor for smog.
Your '76 360 would have had hardened seats for the valves. "D2TE" heads I believe.
You mentioned a 390?
If you put that '71 motor in and all the external and evap stuff is there along with air injection & cat and whatever else you have now, my guess is the smoggy isn't going to give it a second look. 360s were low compression all along, so I doubt there much of any difference. Your timing set may be retarded, but you may have enough wiggle room in your numbers to make that a non issue.
Do you have an old smog printout? Post the max and what your truck blew on HC, NO etc.
Got the truck from washington with no smog but now in california and it has headers and a 4 berrel S intake with a truck avenger. I want to put a cam and straight up can timing on it so thats the want for a smog motor. Not to worried about the valves as long s it makes it to the smog rep and passes. Being a 150 truck it doesn't need a cat.
Since it's a Washington truck, it has to have the OEM "49 state" equipment. Headers won't fly, nor will the 4bbl, as that's not the way it was equipped originally.
How about the Evap stuff--that can be a real pita if it's missing.
Have you had anything smogged recently? If so, you could ask the guy what he'll let slide on a '76....
