Light switch, number dummy.

A few months ago I bought a new light switch from Rock Auto and just got around to installing it this morning. The catalog didn't say there were different ones and the one I have is wrong. The one in the truck has an extended metal housing. I changed the housing by cutting the rivets off with a dremel and pop riveting the old housing on the switch. It was a PIA but works fine.

I assume you are talking about the headlight switch?? The part number I have for this switch is replacement number D3ZB-11654-AA......I took this off of the headlight switch that I got from a 1970 donor truck. How it was a D3 I dont know unless it was switched out at sometime, but i know it works.

In Dennis Carpenters book, it says D3ZZ-11654-A, page 78.

The ID engineering number * marked on the switch is: D3ZB-11654-AA

I took this off of the headlight switch that I got from a 1970 donor truck. How it was a D3 I dont know ( see below ) unless it was switched out at sometime, but i know it works.

In Dennis Carpenters 1967/79 truck repro parts catalog (page 78), it says the part number is D3ZZ-11654-A - $50.00
1965/72 F100/350: The original headlamp switch was C5TZ-11654-A

In 1973, FoMoCo replaced it (and etc) w/a new service part replacement headlamp switch kit.

D3ZZ-11654-A (replaced: C5DZ-11654-A; C5OZ-11654-A; C5TZ-11654-A, B & C; C8UZ-11654-A & D3UZ-11654-A) .. Headlamp Switch Kit (Motorcraft SW-1245).

Available from Ford, the Memphis TN Ford parts depot has 1,267 of the little charrmers.

MSRP: $50.18 // FTE sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price: $33.12 / PartsGuyEd = Horizon Ford in Seattle WA

Applications: 1965/66 Fairlane / 1965/70 Falcon / Some: 1965/66 & 1971/72 Mustang's (1965/66: production dates apply / 1971/72: body styles apply) / 1970/72 Maverick/Comet before 1/2/1972.

1965/72: F100/350 & B/C/CT/F/H/HT/N/NT/T500/1100 / 1966/76 Bronco / 1969/74 Econoline.

Because this new switch replaced sooo many others, it's a kit...comes with parts necessary to make the changes, and...

Even though it has a 1973 Mustang (D3ZZ) part number prefix, it does not fit 1973 Mustang's!

* There are no Ford parts numbers marked on any parts after 1956, just ID engineering and casting numbers (when applicable).

the 4th character in the p/n tells you if its a service part or if its an engineering, etc type number, the basic group its for...Z as in C5TZ denotes a service replacement part, aka dealer parts..the B you posted thats on your switch denotes, if Im not mistaken, the Body group...
As to the extra spacer...I hate screwing with those suckers...I did a switch in mine and keeping everything lined up just so on the backside as well as the dash bezel and nut on the other side while trying to screw it all together is a real pain...not a five minute job...unless you get lucky.

(sigh) No, it does not....I made that clear in post #3. Doncha think I would know the difference, since I was a Ford partsman for 35 years?

D3ZB-11654-AA is the ID engineering number marked on the switch.

The Ford part number for the switch is D3ZZ-11654-A

If you find a number marked on a part after 1956, it's either an ID engineering or casting number.

"Squire" Don, go to sleep, cuz it's past your beddie bye time! williamwilliam is enough as it is.

The 4th character of the prefix defines if it's a part number (p/n)...or not.

We know all about characters, don't we...cuz we're both a coupla a them. I was gonna phone you...rag on you inre to this miscue, but you need sleep.
