Question stroker

i wanna build myself a pickup or convert a old bronco to 2wd and do it up. But i want a 351 w with about 400 hp and 400ft/lbs of torque. Thats just a goal. I want a stroker but i have no idea what i would need for this type of power. I'd like the power to be all done by 5500 rpm. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do a search on "strokers" and you should come up with something at least.

400/400 is pretty easy to do even with a non stroked 351, but it won't be a 5500rpm motor.

The easiest way to do it would be a 393. This uses a 3.85" crank, stock rods, and 302 pistons. I don't know what heads you'll be running....that will determine what kind of cam you'll need to hit the numbers.

But for basics.

750cfm Vacuum Secondary
Performer RPM intake
Cam in the 215/220* range .525" lift, 112lsa
1 5/8" headers
9.5:1 compression, more with aluminum heads
So many choices of heads out there....ported stockers, GT40, GT40p, Roush 180s, Twisted Wedge, Edelbrock Performers....all would work well for this rpm range and power requirement.

I am thinking of running whatever would be the cheapest heads overall. I might try finding a set of heads off a 69 mustang but i might port the ones i got and have some bigger valves installed. Not quite sure anyone got suggestions on heads?

The heads are what really produce power, so just going "cheap" may not be the best policy. You'll have to compare what it costs to port a set of 351 heads and rebuild them, compared to the cost of aftermarket heads. For my money, I'd run Roush 180s...a light cartridge roll cleanup on the bowls and they should flow great for your application.

thanks for all the help everyone i really appreciate it as the engine builders around here only know stuff bought chevs(they must all be plugs). So i think a 1978-1983 bronco (insurance reasons)converted to 2wd with a c6 and a 351 stroker could represent the blue oval just right around my place lol
