another question on the egr system

So I have an 06 f350 powerstroke, 135k on the odometer. I am the original owner and it is all stock. I had been getting symptoms of a bad injector. Took it to the shop and he said one injector not working right. Instead of replacing he did a complete clean of oil and fuel with the BG products and some other stuff. It worked great for about 2 months. Then it started crapping out again. The injector was working properly so He replaced the EGR valve and it ran good for about a week. He took the valve out and it had chunks of carbon stuck in it. Again about a week same thing. So I took it out and again chunks. So unplugged the EGR valve and it is running great. So now after reading alot on this forum, which is amazing by the way, I have decided to do the delete kit myself and keep my valve plugged in. I will also rebuild the oil cooling unit and change the head studs. My question is if I do this will it pass CA emmisions? I just got smog tested last week so I have 2 years. Also does my fix sound appropriate? And any and all advice you would want to give.

Thanks!

No Sir, won't pass emissions if you do a delete. Check out the Bullet Proof EGR coolers. Your plan sounds fine, just substitute a better EGR cooler when you rebuild your oil cooler.

And I will add this - plan on taking your intake manifold to a shop that has a hot tank to clean it. Pay the man some money, and come home with a spotless intake manifold good for another 135k or more. My driveway still suffers from the crud that came out of that thing... and that was 8 months ago.

IMO you may have a combustion problem if yor getting that much junk in the egr valve and theturbo probably needs to be cleaned

So do tey actully put a sniffer up the tailpipe to do a smog check???

they do make a EGR Deleate that looks like everything is intact

i dont know crap about diesels but i wanna delete my egr but i dont really understand how to do it. Right now i am leaking air out of egr due to trying to take it off and clean it. what would happen if i put a block off plate were the egr is would everything still run ok?

I am wondering why would it not pass. I am not questioning you just asking out of ignorance. They don't check the exhaust just a visual and a code check. Will they be able to check with that?
I have been torn on the delete or the Bulletproof cooler. I just hate for the old emmision to be go back through the engine, I would rather breathe it.....Yes, I was planning on getting the Intake cleaned. It is bad enough in the EGR port, I scrapped and vaccumed what I could in there, so I am sure it is really bad in the intake manifold.

Thanks!

No that valve regulates the Exhaust gas flow
you nee to deleate it right and even with the EGR deleate you still need the valve plugged into the wire harness for fan operation
But you cant just slap on a blockoff plate it wont run at ALL

If they dont put a sniffer up there I think you could do it
BPD sells an EGR Deleate that looks like its still there and working just the exhaust ports are capped and welded on each end of a EGR cooler
or some have just welded them closed themselves
and if it throws a CEL you can get a tunner to turn it off
Your intake manafold looks just like your egr valve did

or you could just get the tunner and turn the EGR Valve itself off leave the EGR cooler there and turn valve back on when the time comes

But even with the egr valve off it would still get heat soak and could fil internaly

LOTS of choices

I've lived in states (yes, states, former military) that would do spot checks using exhaust analysis. I don't know about CA, but if they do any sort of exhaust test - you won't pass. If they just do a visual, you would pass with an EGR cooler that has been blocked off such as the Bullet Proof Diesel model or one you've done yourself. If they never 'smell' your exhaust, you'll be good to go unless they surprise you one time.
