I have an 03 Eddie Bauer Expy with a leather steering wheel that is slowing coming apart. Has anyone found a replacement cover that fits nice and if so, did you need to remove the old leather? Or have you just ordered a new steering wheel... which seems damn near impossible to find in the medium parchment interior with radio controls. Thanks in advance.
Thanks alloro... I should have mentioned that at 8 years, the leather is a showing a ton of age and has torn apart. I'm thinking I need at least new leather if that is possible. Called a upholstry shop this morning, they said to buy a new steering wheel... that just seems nuts!
Go with this guy -- rjmansmith at aol.com. His name is Bob and I found his name and email address on this site from someone else who used him.
I have a 2006 Eddie Bauer and he made me a beautiful wood grain steering wheel for $180.00 plus a $65.00 refundable core charge (which was refunded back to me after I sent him my old steering wheel). Transaction went smoothly and I even referred him to a guy here at work for his 2008 Cherokee, which also went smoothly. Can't recommend him or his product enough.
Installation wasn't bad - you can find the Ford instructions pretty easily on the internet with a Google search. I'm a novice DIY'er and I took my time and it took less than an hour.
I don't have a photo of mine but if you search the Expedition forum here for "woodgrain steering wheel" you'll see a few photos pop up.
Instead of buying a new Steering Wheel, I bought this and installed it in about one hour .
There are different colors and mine turned out to be a bit darker tan than 'Parchment'.
I did see a lighter one is available now, these a good heavy leather covers. Read the reviews on the Ad, mine is one of them.
If you do this, they are very tight over the XP wheel so get it warm before fitting over the wheel.
Let it stretch for a while before threading it and take your time.
I put two-sided foam tape where the wide spokes are and that keeps it in place nicely.
Mine is wearing quite well, has a nice feel and is not slippery.
