Leather Steering Wheel

My 03 has 47000 miles and the color on the leather wrapped steering wheel has started to wear and fade at the spot where my hand holds the wheel the most to the black undercolor. I would like to know if they rewrap or maybe custom wrap steering wheels, and if they do, does anyone know of a reputable company. Ideally, I won't have to remove the steering wheel.

Would be an alternative to removing yours.

http://www.american-stitches.com/

Is a place that can customize or re-do yours.

Maybe even jsut getting a new Ford wheel. Switching them is no big deal, and at least when I replaced the leather wheel in my former Bronco...it was not all that much money.

Thanks for those sites. I will check them out. I did find from directfordparts.com the OEM steering wheel for $147.07. Now I will have to decide which way to go. I don't like the idea of fiddling withe the airbag, but I hear it's not so bad to replace the steering wheel.

Hello Gentlemen
This is how I solved my same situation:
http://www.grantproducts.com/default.html
just check the "wood pattern in your doors, if you have those.

Yes, I looked at Grant's website. Nice wheels. Jukka, did you install the wheel yourself? If so, did you go through the whole procedure with the battery and using that airbag plug for the wiring? I just assumed that unplugging it and unbolting the airbag would be fine. I just want to avoid the airbag deploying on me while I remove it. Then there goes a trip to the junkyard to try and find a replacement airbag which I hear is very expensive.

American Stitches is the WORST company I have ever dealt with! Avoid them unless you are willing to have such a crappy job done that you essentially lose your steering wheel. Their customer service is horrific. I can't say enough bad things about them.

Read this thread for a fuller view of the story. I am re-Markable LSC on that board.

Turf ! sorry to hear you had such a bad time with them! They made a Wheel for my 95 MBZ E420 and it looks awesome! They sent me the new wheel and I just mailed back my old one! The peeps there were always very considerate and answered all my questions! My only complaint was the price of the wheel was high ! But I quess if you drive a MBZ you can expect to bend over and spread yer cheeks!! I got one for my 99 F250 PSD from a guy on ebay for $199 !! Looks awesome !! Real wood not that plastic crap!!

Just a word to the wise. Be prepared to roll the dice if you go with them.
