i got an old warn 8274 for 120 at the junkyard the other day.
rollers were froze up but everything else looks amazing after a teardown.
it came with remote cable everything in good shape and guys were buying broke ones i saw online for twice what i paid.
so i cleaned up the rollers and they are mid paint right now. im going to install it as is then next year when i got free time rebuild and repaint it.
so few questions itll only be used with engine running but will any electrical upgrades be needed?
also for all the winch guys out there are there any upgrades for it?
Great score, those are great winches. I did some amazing work with mine one night a few years ago when I got called to rescue some friends that had recieved an earlier call to rescue some friends. There was a half ton dodge, a Cummins dodge on 35's, a big chevy 3/4 ton on 35's, and an 02 Powerstroke crew cab on 37's. All of them buryed to the frames. Wierd ground that held the pickups up until they spun a tire then they broke through the crust and were done. I could only get within a couple hundred feet with out getting in the same stuff. So I backed up to a tree and chained my pickup to the tree and reached out there single line and plucked everyone of them out. The big crew cab 02 was the hardest pull, right before it came up I was sure the cable was going to snap, but it didn't and I can still rib those guys about saving thier big mud machines.
88beast, whats that wire hanging down from the mirror? Are they heated? or is that left over from some radio antenna?
I picked up on old Bellview (sp??) winch last year which is the model before the 8274 if I remember correct. Yours has the automatic brake I think? Mine has a manual drum and band brake that was broken when I got it. I did a quick teardown, cleanup, and reassembly and haven't really used it yet. It was mounted on the Jeep bracket it came with stock, with a receiver tube welded underneath. Thats kinda nice as I can swap it front to back if needed (although it weighs a lot!!). I think the only thing I've done was winch my truck up the driveway to wind the cable back on the drum, but it worked sweet!
Plan is to use it to drag some firewood out of the woods if I ever find the time.
