My daily driver is an '86 F-150 that was originally a 302 manual trans. Somewhere along the line, she got a transplant of an older (carbureted) 302 and a c6. I thought I read somewhere in the archives that some rear-end gearing is too steep for the c6's reverse gear... I crawled under the truck and inspected my rear, looking for the id tag, and found nothing. I do know it's an 8.8", and I have no reason to believe it's original, since the rest of the drivetrain isn't...
Here's the problem: when changing the fluid/filter a few months ago, I found part of a clutch disc in the pan. The fluid/filter (and a modulator) really firmed up the shifts, and it ran great, for a while. Now, I've nearly lost reverse!
The options, as I see them, are:
1. rebuild the c6 and just run it
2. rebuild the c6 and swap a differently geared rear
3. find a donor and swap back to a manual
