C-6 Slips in Reverse
I've experienced a problem with the C-6 tranny on my '88 Bronco w/351. When truck sits overnight and engine is started in morning, transmission sometimes hesitates or slips when shifter is placed in "reverse". This does not appear to occur again after warmup and the C-6 always shifts normal when placed in "drive" without any slip or hesitation. I purchased truck with 110K, it currently has 140K. Have changed fluid/filter twice in past 5 years with suprisingly few metal particals in pan. Any idea what could be causing problem? John

I'm rebuilding an A4LD and one of the problems these have is the O-ring on the reverse servo piston. In fact the A4LD rebuild kit now uses the double lip O-ring that was desighed for the C6. Don't know when they made the switch to this new design. This is probably your problem. Check out the basic gasket/seal kit from bulkparts.com for under $30. Four bolts to take off the servo plate and a light spring pushes the piston out. As easy to change as a filter. Go to www.atcdg.com and click on tech for service bul. Look at A4LD reverse as your C6 would have had a double lip O-ring standard. Unless your band is broken, this is probably the problem.

O.H.W.: Where is the Servo plate located on a C-6? Right side of transmission difficult to access on the Bronco, because of exhaust system. Able to purchase replacement parts locally ... thanks for your help. John

Sorry, maybe I assumed too much cause I was told that this seal was taken from a C6. In an A4LD, the reverse servo is located next to the valve body and is so easy to get to. It pushes up on a band.
Just looked on aceomatic.com, click catalog - automatics - Ford - C6. Then you can look at illustration or text to see the parts. Reverse on this looks like a mess to get to.
